Bringing Art and People Together

by , in

My City, My SM, My Art, which recently launched its book just in time for the National Arts Month, is the latest edition in the My City, My SM series, which celebrates the beauty, culture, traditions, and great people in cities around the Philippines where SM has malls.

This comes after My City, My SM, which promotes tourism; My City, My SM, My Cuisine, which highlights heirloom recipes from prominent families in the di!erent regions; and My City, My SM, My Crafts, which showcases traditional arts and modern Philippine design.

My City, My SM, My Art celebrates Philippine visual arts – painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography, and $lmmaking. It aims to bring people and art together in a roadshow featuring the works of masters, modernists, and millennials around the SM Supermalls.

Our cultural journey began on March 2016 at SM Seaside City in Cebu with an exhibit featuring artists from the Queen City of the South including maestro Romulo Galicano; and concluded on March 2019 at SM City Cebu with the masterpieces of Manuel Rodriguez, Sr., the Father of Philippine Printmaking leading the way. In between, our search for art and artists brought us as far north as the Baguio and the Cordilleras and as far south as General Santos in Mindanao. During those three years, we advocated art for all by working closely with communities, schools, and the public to mount exhibits, workshops, and contests in key cities around the Philippines. These were featured in the Philippine Star, our project partner, as well as in local media, and a cultural series in regional cable channels.

To make all these possible, we collaborated with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, the Metropolitan Museum of Manila, and the Shell Companies of the Philippines; as well as the Philippine Star, Center Stage Productions, and Finale Art File.

Along the way, we were able to have a glimpse of what makes Philippine art unique, and how close family ties, ingenuity, and a sense of community have played key roles in its development.

We have seen how Filipino art has 7ourished through families like the Abellanas of Cebu; as well as those of masters Mauro Malang Santos, Jose Pitok Blanco, and Eduardo Castrillo whose children – and in some cases grandchildren – now represent new-generation visual artists. There are also wonderful examples of how art ties fathers and sons together – National Artist Abdulmari Imao and Toym, National Living Treasure Eduardo Mutuc and Eduardo, Jr., Ricarte Puruganan and Victor, Manuel Baldemor and Monnar, Romulo Olazo and Jonathan. Family members have also played significant roles in preserving the artistic legacies of their loved ones: Josie Baldovino for her brother NationalArtist Jose Joya, Daisy Tolentino-Mendez for her father National Artist Guillermo Tolentino, and Totong Francisco II for his grandfather National Artist Carlos Botong Francisco. We were both honored and touched when the family of Manuel Rodriguez, Sr. 7ew all the way from the US and the Bahamas to join us in the tribute to their father at SM City Cebu. We were also amazed at how Filipino artists created groundbreaking works from non-traditional materials. With art supplies either too costly or simply unavailable, Baguio’s Jordan Mang-osan and Patric Palasi found their niche in solar and co!ee art, respectively; while Palawan’s Elordie Mesac crafted his pieces from rubber slippers. When his materials were washed away by super-typhoon Yolanda, Tacloban-born Dante Enage began using tuba, a local wine made from coconut juice, as his medium. The rise of regional Fine Arts schools like the Philippine High School for the Arts in Laguna, the University of Mindanao, the University of Rizal System, La Consolacion College in Bacolod, Ateneo de Naga, and the Adventist University of the Philippines in Cavite have likewise been vital to the growth of the arts around the country. We also saw how art thrived when artists got together in collectives like the Tam-Awan Village in Baguio, the Artist’s Village in Baler, and Pinto Art Museum in Rizal. Now, after three years, more than 30 stops, hundreds of artworks, and a myriad of memorable experiences, we have compiled our exciting cultural journey in a book. Join us as we unravel the exquisite tapestry of Philippine art through the lives and works of some of the country’s most fascinating visual artists. Join in our cultural adventure at our microsite and our YouTube Channel at Please also watch out for our television series over Skycable in Cebu.

Best regards,

We will triumph with the help of God who will trample down all our foes.(Psalm 108:14)

Oral Care 101: Brushing alone is not enough, says Santé

by , in

Pasig City, Philippines – [March 8, 2021] – It’s a given fact: maintaining good personal hygiene is critical to our health and well-being. Among all the hygiene practices that we need to do to stay healthy, we should not forget how important oral hygiene is.

Just like any of our other body parts, your mouth contains plenty of mostly harmless bacteria. However, it is the entry point to your digestive and respiratory organs, which can catch diseases if harmful bacteria enter them.

For Santé, a provider of premier natural and organic health and wellness products and services, oral health is essential to a person's general health, well-being, and quality of life. Daily brushing and flossing can keep your mouth clean and bacteria under control, enabling you to eat, speak and socialize without pain, discomfort, or embarrassment.

Without proper oral hygiene, high levels of bacteria can lead to oral infections like tooth decay and gum disease, two of the most common oral health diseases among Filipinos. When left untreated, it can bring difficulty in eating, sleeping, and speaking.

According to experts, tooth decay affects about 92.4 percent of Filipinos, with only 1 out of 10 people are willing to visit the dentist, while 78 percent experience gum diseases, with 8 out of 10 suffering from gingivitis or gum swelling. Despite these two oral diseases putting people's health at risk, it is still easily preventable.

Religiously practicing daily toothbrushing and flossing may not be enough to keep your oral health well. People should also remember that regularly visiting your dentist at least twice a year can help detect and prevent potential oral health problems early.

In addition to toothbrushing daily, using the right toothbrush and toothpaste can massively help with the results. Like Santé's Fresh and Clean Nano Charcoal Toothbrush, which helps prevent oral diseases through charcoal's unique benefits, like absorbing toxins in the mouth from consuming specific food and drinks.

With a reliable toothbrush also needs trustworthy toothpaste for better mouth protection, Santé's Fresh and Clean Natural Toothpaste contains four herbal ingredients:

  • Organic barley grass powder for faster healing.
  • Aloe vera extract for stronger teeth.
  • Tea tree oil to fight unwanted odor-causing bacteria.
  • Chamomile extract acts as an anti-inflammatory agent.

Maintaining a healthy lifestyle and a well-balanced diet can also significantly impact oral health, like minimizing sugary food intake, avoiding tobacco smoking, drugs, and excessive alcohol. However, once you have felt problems in your mouth, it is best to consult with a dentist for early treatment.

An excellent way to start your healthy lifestyle is by taking vitamins like the Santé Daily-C. It contains powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant vitamins that help break down harmful toxins and mucus in the mouth. It also stimulates the natural antimicrobial properties of the immune system, furthering oral protection.

Santé Daily-C, Santé Fresh and Clean Nano Charcoal Toothbrush, and Santé Fresh and Clean Natural Toothpaste are just one of the many other natural health and wellness products offered by Santé. Known for its flagship, Santé Barley™, the company has developed a comprehensive selection of everyday barley-based products. They are made with organic barley grass, as certified by BioGro, New Zealand's leading organic certification agency.

Key to Starting the Day Right?

by , in

Key to Starting the Day Right?

Don’t Skip your Breakfast

Pasig City, Philippines – [February 24, 2021] – Amid the global health crisis, it is essential to keep a healthy diet. And when it comes to maintaining it, it all boils down to refusing to skip the most important meal of the day—a complete, hearty breakfast. Whether your goal is to manage your weight or simply keep yourself healthy, it pays to make eating breakfast a regular habit.

With its numerous benefits, Santé, a leading provider of premier, natural, and organic health and wellness products and services, encourages everyone to make breakfast a vital habit, especially amid the pandemic, to kick-start your day, helping you keep your immune systems and overall well-being healthy.

If you are wondering about its other amazing benefits, then check out this list:

You get energized. As its name implies, eating your breakfast helps you to "break" your "fast" after a good night's sleep. When you skip your morning meal, you tell your body to conserve energy since you did not get the nutrients you need. Your metabolism slows down, and your body attempts to store fat.

On the other hand, eating breakfast helps you jumpstart your metabolism and be well on your way to maintaining your health or achieving your health goals.

It helps fuel your brain. A healthy breakfast is usually composed of food rich in carbohydrates, a preferred energy source for the brain. By choosing complex carbohydrates for your breakfast, you help improve your memory due to the increase of glucose available to the brain from the bloodstream. Among the best sources of complex carbohydrates include whole oats and cereals.

Your cognitive functions also improve after eating any food like carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. So, it pays to take a well-balanced breakfast, mixing your carbohydrates with protein-rich foods like eggs, lean meats, and healthy fats like nuts, among others.

You eat not more than you should. A lot of people skip breakfast to avoid consuming extra calories. But did you know that eating breakfast helps decrease your appetite?

According to a study published in the Journal of Nutrition in 2011, the subjects who ate breakfast regularly reported decreased hunger levels than those who skipped their morning meals. So, by eating high-fiber and nutritious meal early in the morning, you are less likely to be hungry throughout the day.

Another habit that you need to practice is drinking eight glasses of water to keep yourself hydrated or a nutritious supplement packed with vitamins and minerals that your body needs.

Santé BarleyTM, for instance, is a pure organic barley grass powdered drink, blended with one of nature's most potent sweeteners, Stevia. This product is best taken before meals. It also readily dissolves in water and contains vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, B6, B12, C, and E (per serving), which can help keep your body healthy and strong.

From Hard Work to Fitspiration Weight Management Tips to a Healthier Year Ahead

 From Hard Work to Fitspiration

Weight Management Tips to a Healthier Year Ahead

Pasig City, Philippines – [February 01, 2021]  Achieving your ideal weight can be a challenge these days because we stay more at home, adhering to safety guidelines. But who says you have no chance of getting started in your fitness goals this year?

The thing is, there are a lot of things you can do at home, especially with the surge of online programs that fitness facilities offer to cater to your needs.

While some of these fitness centers are now operational, like the Santé Fitness Lab, a premier one-stop fitness center in Vermosa, Cavite, you may still opt to engage in online fitness sessions, particularly when there are no available fitness facilities in your area. Some other products and services can also help you in your journey to lead a healthier lifestyle and to live more and do more in life.

Do you need more? Take it from these two kick-ass individuals, who achieved their fitness goals while quarantining at home.

Reclaiming Self-Esteem

Jayson Francisco, 24, has always exuded body positivity. He is also surrounded by supportive people like his mom and dad, who he considers his best friends since birth. Jayson even finds being with them every single day during the lockdowns as the best thing that has ever happened. At the start of his quarantining, he decided to challenge himself by joining a fitness program organized by his churchmates to lead a healthier lifestyle.

"I always wanted to lose weight,” he said. “When I joined that fitness group, I eventually fell in love with the workout routine and the changes I made in my eating habits.”

Jayson also mentioned that he does not want to be overweight by the time he was 30. So, he made sure not to miss his high-intensity interval training (HIIT), composed mainly of exercises, such as push-ups, mountain climbs, squats, jumping jacks, jumping sit-ups, among others.

"After reaching my goal (75kg), I decided to lift weights. So, from 140kg last November 2019 and 136 kg last February 2020, I weighed 75 kg in September last year. It was hard to do the workout at home, especially that you are close to your bed's comforts. But if you are well-motivated, I am sure that you can do it even when working out next to your bed," he added.

Challenging Yourself to be Better

Justine Castillo, 26, could not agree more. Her weight management motivation is more about challenging herself to be better. Her eagerness to lose weight came about when she took the uncertainties brought by the pandemic as a challenge to show herself that she can be fit and healthy even if she is stuck at home.

"At first, I did cardio exercises, and then I focused on the part of my body that I want to tone – like my legs, arms, and tummy. It is important to have the routine early in the morning, so you can get used to it every day and achieve your fitness goals. I also found it challenging to workout at home because I am used to doing my exercises at the gym. The equipment I have at home was also limited. But, as time goes by, I learned that I could also do workouts at home and make possible the achievement of my fitness goals," Tin said.

Changing your Diet

Both Jayson and Tin also had to change their diet. For Tin, she simply chose to eat healthier food and cut her sweets, rice, salty food, and high-carb intake. She ensures that she eats a low-carb diet and adheres to intermittent fasting.

"To fulfill my weight goal, I needed to have self-discipline, be consistent in what I do, and to have the right supplement that I need. I start my day by drinking a pre-workout drink like Santé BarleyTM or Santé's Barliccino coffee. After a workout, I drink Santé's FitN’Trim   juice and have some healthy breakfast, like salad and chicken. I also count the calories I burned during workouts and, of course, be conscious about my calorie intake," Tin added.

Jayson also did the same as he believes in the "calories in, calories out" mindset. "I decided to track my calorie intake per day while making sure that I still get the nutrients I need to sustain my energy. I also drink Santé BarleyTM and FitN’Trim," he said.

Finding the right fitness drink

Aside from a well-balanced diet, Jayson and Tin believe that taking food supplements packed with nutrients that they need also helps achieve their fitness goals. For instance, Santé BarleyTM TM TM is a pure organic barley grass powdered drink. Blended with one of nature's most potent sweeteners, Stevia, this product is best taken before meals. It also readily dissolves in water and contains A, B1, B2, B3, B6, B12, C, and E (per serving).

FitN’Trim, on the other hand, is an excellent drink to partner with during workout routines or healthy diets and one of Santé's premier organic health and wellness products. It is a high source of Vitamin C and contains Santé's signature organic pure barley grass powder, certified by BioGro, New Zealand's leading organic certification agency.

This drink also contains green tea and a zest of lemon flavor, mixed with L-Carnitine that aids in increasing your metabolism, triggering the reduction of body fat. It also has calcium to help build strong bones and teeth, protein to assist in muscle growth and maintenance, magnesium to aid in muscle and nerve function, dietary fiber to aid digestive health, and Iron and Zinc that helps the immune system.

Believing in Yourself

For those planning to start their fitness journey, Jayson said that everything boils down to your drive to achieve your goal. He recalled that he enrolled himself in a gym's fitness program three years ago. Although it did not go as planned, a small-sized freebie shirt helped him believe that he could achieve his ideal weight.

"My fitness coach, at that time, jokingly said that if that shirt fits me, then I'll be his idol. The other day, I saw this same shirt in my closet. Guess what? It fits me now," he said. "What learned from this experience is that there will come a time when you will lose your motivation. My advice is to remind yourself of your goals and the progress you have made every day. Managing your weight is not an easy feat, for sure. So, you must be clear on your WHY and let that produce the HOW."

Tin, on the other hand, reiterated that starting your fitness journey begins by believing in yourself. "Self-discipline, consistency, and choosing the right supplement will also help you achieve your fitness goals," she added.

by , in

With the shift to remote work and instant commerce brought by the pandemic, Bo’s Coffee launched an exclusively digital coffee brand—Bo’s Coffee Daily to help customers access quality coffee on-demand.

--  The Philippines’ biggest homegrown coffee chain, Bo’s Coffee, recently launched its digital coffee company “Bo’s Coffee Daily”  which aims to help urban dwellers adapt to the new normal. The brand marries the quality homegrown coffee beans and decades of Bo’s Coffee craftsmanship with the convenience of today’s technology.

“With Bo’s Coffee Daily, people living in select urban areas of the Philippines will now be able to get the coffee they crave in just a few clicks,” said Steve Benitez, founder of Bo’s Coffee Daily. “When the quarantine restrictions took hold, we realized that coffee was such a customary part of consumers’ lives–whether it meant catching up with good friends or getting some work done. People really missed the cafe. Of course, we couldn’t deliver those exact same experiences, but we could still get them professionally-brewed coffee right when they needed it, while making the ordering experience as delightful as possible.”

Through a friendly Facebook Messenger chatbot accessible from a phone, customers can order safely from home, beat the traffic and skip the lines. The chatbot isn’t only extremely simple to use—it’s actually really fun too. Fashioned to recreate the cafe experience, the chatbot makes customers feel at home—as if they were actually talking with their neighborhood barista. “In today’s world, customers already expect convenience, but what we’ve tried to do is go a step further and make the experience more personalized and human,” said Steve. Customers can also access Bo’s Coffee Daily directly on the FoodPanda and Grab apps.

Since the brand’s soft launch, customers have been raving about their experience. Geovanni wrote, “Bo’s Coffee Daily is the perfect go to coffee brand for your daily dose of coffee! Transaction is fast. My fave’s Iced Creamy Hazelnut!” Another customer, Rosemarie, mentioned, “It’s easy to manage my order and check the menu and promos available. Very convenient!”

Catering to adventurous coffee enthusiasts, Bo’s Coffee Daily offers a wide array of options, including its best sellers: Iced Cream Cheese Coffee, Mocha Dinosaur, Naughty Hazel Mocha Coffee and Oreo Iced Creamy Coffee . Almost a year has passed since the COVID-19 pandemic started, which has forced all sectors to devise innovative ways of continuing their operations.

Educational institutions are among those who had no choice but to come up with completely new ways of providing educations to students, who are one of the most vulnerable sectors in this pandemic.

For GT Northeast Academy (GTNA), adhering to their vision-mission of providing solid basic education, promoting the holistic formation of youth has helped them in the development of their new alternative modes of learning.

“In GT Northeast Academy, our remote learning is a blend of real-time, flexible, technological, and non-technological options that fit best for our students, families and teachers’ synchronous and asynchronous learning,” GTNA CEO Engr. Leonora Salvane explained.

The hard work and dedication of its faculty members have helped GTNA in carrying out their remote learning program for the past school year 2020-2021, despite challenges in the first months of its implementation.

Consider the past school year as a test run of GTNA’s remote learning program.

While there may have been birthing pains in the first months of its implementation, the program has definitely improved through constant consultations with stakeholders.

“With the supportive and understanding parents and guardians, who became our partners in the teaching-learning under the remote learning program, and through the series of meetings and consultations, GTNA was able to improve its services,” Salvane said.

Now, for the upcoming school year, GTNA is excited to offer its better and improved remote learning program to their students which include Nursery 1 to Kindergarten, Grade School, Junior High School and Senior High School.

Through its remote learning program, GTNA aims to ensure that all students have the opportunity to continue learning that focuses on critical standards for success in the coming school year.

Parents will have the freedom to choose their type of program depending on their situation.

The fist option is the School-Provided Instructional Materials with Teacher Support. This option is recommended for working parents of early childhood and elementary students wherein nobody from the family can help or monitor the student in attending online classes.

In this option, the school will provide instructional materials weekly and the parent or guardian will pick it up in school or have it delivered to their doorstep. The parent or guardian will then inform the school of his/her day off or available schedule, between Monday to Saturday, in order to conduct a special online class.

By this time, the teacher will be able to assist and tackle the topics for the whole week to the student and the parent.

The second option is the Teacher-Led Instruction Online with Teacher Support and Support Program which is a mix of both online and offline teaching.

The third option is the Teacher-Led Full Digital Instruction with Teacher Support and Support Programs.

In the second and third options, teachers will use both instruction methods in order to deliver what is intended and appropriate for the students. It is essential to use varied techniques to ensure success of the delivery of instruction.

In addition, GTNA will continue to provide guidance and support through the following programs: (1) Grab and Go Food Packs (early childhood pupils only), (2) Counseling and Health Consultation, (3) Technical Support, and (4) Advisory Checkup.

“The transition to remote learning will not be simple and easy. This will be a complicated time for families and the transition will be a challenge. As we all adjust to the new normal, the best response we can do is to face it with adaptability, patience, and partnership,” Salvane shared.

In order to let more parents know of their remote learning program, GTNA is inviting everyone to their Early Childhood Virtual Open House on the following schedules:

Batch 1 – January 23, 2021 (9 A.M. to 11 A.M.)

Batch 2 – February 20, 2021 (9 A.M. to 11 A.M.)

The virtual open house will be via Zoom. Those interested will have to preregister using these links: or

GTNA is also already accepting reservations for school year 2021-2022 from Nursery 1 to Senior High School. You may contact the Information Office at 0920-281-6086.

Best regards,

We will triumph with the help of God who will trample down all our foes.(Psalm 108:14)
